Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, celebrated Zambia-based businessman, was recently conferred with Forbes ‘Best of Africa’ awards category. The award received by Dr. Mahtani was Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ award 2021, and was presented to Dr. Rajan Mahtani for his significant contributions towards banking sector of Zambia. Dr. Mahtani is responsible for redefining the banking sector of Zambia along with several other sectors. He is the owner of several top companies in Zambia including Mahtani Group and Finsbury Investments. His company Mahtani Group was established in the year 1981 and quickly rose to become one of the top conglomerates across Zambia as well as Africa. The company not only expanded to various locations including South Africa, Malawi and international locations, but also expanded to several sectors such as real estate, energy, agriculture, mining, insurance and financial services. Across each of these sectors, the company and its branches have helped in enhancing the socio-economic conditions of the local areas with employment and livelihood opportunities and increasing commercial activities. The philanthropic and charitable contributions from Dr. Rajan Mahtani are equally significant. Dr. Rajan Mahtani, in his more than four decades of business ventures, has made several contributions towards empowerment of the Zambian society. However, majority of these contributions go unnoticed as these are rarely promoted or highlighted in the business. For instance, Dr. Rajan Mahtani founded the Prison Fellowship Zambia, a program affiliated to the Prison Fellowship International (PFI), Washington. The objective of the program is to provide fair and transparent criminal justice procedures as well as care for the ex-inmates, inmates as well as their families. Furthermore. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is also regarded for establishing the Stephen Malama award and scholarship for top law graduates in Zambia. The scholarship comes with significant amount to ensure better opportunities for future lawyers of Zambia.
