In the year 2021, Africa saw comeback of several business events. One of these business and philanthropic events was the Forbes-FIN (Foreign Investment Network) philanthropy and leadership roundtable conference. It is one of the highly anticipated and regarded business events in Africa. The event was held virtually to comply with the ongoing Covid-19 norms and members participated from their respective locations. Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a celebrated entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, participated in this event from his conference room. He was invited in the event as a honorary speaker. Also, the event was broadcasted across the globe via YouTube medium.
During this Forbes-FIN event, the Forbes ‘Best of Africa’ award ceremony was held. It is one of the most premier and notable philanthropy and leadership awards in Africa. The awards are presented to leading lights in the field of business and philanthropy. One of the major reasons for the high recognition and value of the awards is the selection process. This selection process comprises months of verification and background checks by both FIN (Foreign Investment Limited) and Forbes. This is followed by interviews and discussions with the awardees to understand their long-term view on philanthropy and empowerment.
Forbes recognised the contributions by Dr. Rajan Mahtani in the field of philanthropy and leadership and conferred him with the Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ award 2021. Dr. Mahtani was recognised for redefining the banking sector of Zambia. He was further recognised for his philanthropic and charitable contributions. Dr. Rajan Mahtani founded the Prison Fellowship Zambia. It is a program affiliated with the Prison Fellowship International (PFI), Washington and works towards welfare, development and justice for the inmates, ex-inmates as well as their families. In a similar manner, Dr. Rajan Mahtani established the Stephen Malama award and scholarship. The award is for top law graduates in Zambia and comes with a scholarship of significant financial budget. Overall, Dr. Rajan Mahtani continues to work for the welfare and development of the Zambian nation and its people.
