Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema recently announced that he plans to abolish the death penalty. This decision was praised and supported by several personalities including Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. Dr. Rajan Mahtani argued in support of the President’s announcement in a political, social as well as religious manner. Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that the death of Almighty Jesus Christ on the cross paid for all the sins associated with human beings who believed in him. As such, the killing of people, especially those in prisons should only be left to the Son of God. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani further argued that death penalty is a mandate that needs to understand fully. Many would question whether the scripture by God permits or prohibit capital punishment.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a God believer and he argued that man is created in God’s image. This can be found in the ‘Book of Genesis chapter 1:26 which stated that “Then God said, let us make man in our own image, according to our lines”. This clearly indicates that God has always viewed men and women in their purest form. Even the women accused of adultery were exempted to be condemned by God. At the same time, the preaching from Almighty Jesus also suggests that only those without any sin are qualified for performing the execution of other men. And as such, there is hardly any human being left who is living on this planet without any sin. Dr. Rajan Mahtani further argued that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross ended the need for a blood sacrifice and blood recompense. Similarly, the sacrifice of Jesus ‘Lamb of God replaced the sacrifice of all animals. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ further made it absolutely unnecessary for executants of murderers for maintaining human values and dignity. This is because the crucifixion of Jesus Christ forever established human values.
Dr.Rajan Mahtani praised the announcement by the Zambian President and stated that his company Prison Fellowship will provide legal and regulatory support in this matter.
