Dr. Mahtani Supports Decision By Zambian President On Death Penalty

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist, have extended their full support towards the recent decision made by the President of Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema, on the occasion of Africa Day, made a bold announcement that he is planning to abolish death penalty completely. This decision, with some negative reactions, have receives majorly positive reactions and support from all over Zambia as well as African nations. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani also said that he fully supports this decision from the President of Zambia. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is known for several philanthropic contributions over the years. One of these contributions has been the Prison Fellowship Zambia developed by Dr. Mahtani more than 37 years ago. It is a noted Christian Outreach program with Dr. Rajan Mahtani as the Chairman. The objective of Prison Fellowship is two folds. The first objective is bringing the teachings and learnings from Jesus Christ to the inmates, ex-inmates and their families in Zambia apart from advocating an effective and fair criminal justice procedure. Also, the organization works towards ensuring the assets of fundamental human rights as well as human dignity are enshrined in the delivery.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani added his voice of support to this decision from the Zambian President. Dr. Rajan Mahtani said that only a person who is passionate, considerate and has respectr for fundamental human rights and human dignity will take such a bold decision. While previous Presidents from Zambia tactically avoided giving death penalty without getting into legal ramifications, none of these Presidents worked towards actually abolishing the law from its roots. As such, it is a mammoth task for the Zambian President as turning his vision into reality will be a long road ahead.
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani also said that the process of abolishment of this cruel and inhumane practice is not new as several major nations and parts across the globe are now abolishing this law. At the same time, transforming this vision into tangible legal and regulatory reforms is a long road ahead and Dr. Rajan Mahtani will support the President in any way possible.
